SpaceX’s $75 Billion IPO Targets Space Data Centers and Mars

SpaceX’s long-anticipated public offering, set to begin trading on Friday, June 12, 2026,, marking the latest sign of the commercialization of space travel and ambitious plans to establish human outposts on the Moon and Mars. The offering is equally indicative of Wall Street’s current fixation on artificial intelligence and the unprecedented wealth concentrated in the hands of technology executives.

The space company is aiming to raise $75 billion at a valuation of $1.78 trillion. In a memo to employees in December, SpaceX Chief Financial Officer Bret Johnsen confirmed the company was targeting an IPO in 2026, with proceeds expected to support development of orbital data centres, among other initiatives.

Space AI Infrastructure Takes Centre Stage

In a groundbreaking announcement on February 2, 2026, Elon Musk revealed that SpaceX merged with his artificial intelligence company xAI, in a deal valued at $1.25 trillion poised to be the largest corporate consolidation in history. Musk described the move as a step toward uniting artificial intelligence, rockets, media, and internet infrastructure under one organisation, calling it an “innovation engine.”

The IPO documents emphasised not just expanding human space exploration but also the company’s plans for artificial intelligence and putting data centres in space. The company plans to use proceeds from this stock offering, and likely future stock sales, to feed the massive capital expenditure needs of both its space and AI businesses. This mirrors growing investor appetite for orbital infrastructure, a trend also reflected in Switch Data Center’s recent $50 billion valuation push.

SpaceX is offering 555,555,555 shares of its Class A common stock at $135 each, with Elon Musk retaining an 84.2% stake after the IPO. SpaceX currently generates as much as 80% of its revenue from launching its own Starlink satellites, making Starlink the financial backbone as the company charts its course toward the stars.
