Amazon Commits $48 Billion to India's AI and Cloud Infrastructure

Amazon has announced an additional $13 billion investment to expand artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure in India, bringing its total planned investment in the country to $48 billion between 2026 and 2030.

AWS Data Centers in Mumbai, Hyderabad to Power India’s AI Future

The announcement coincided with a meeting between Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where Jassy reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to India’s growth. The new funds will be deployed to scale AWS data center capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad, giving startups, enterprises, and government organisations access to custom AI chips, managed AI services, and advanced developer tools.

This latest pledge builds on the $35 billion commitment Amazon made in December 2025, when hyperscalers were racing to establish a stronger footprint in the Indian market. The additional $13 billion specifically targets AI and cloud infrastructure, making Amazon one of the largest global AI and cloud infrastructure investors in the country.

The expanded plan lifts Amazon’s cumulative investment in India from 2010 to 2030 to over $88 billion a figure that underscores how central India has become to the company’s global strategy. India’s data center capacity grew from 350 megawatts in 2019 to 1.6 gigawatts in 2025, a compound annual growth rate of 29%, signalling the scale of demand the infrastructure push designed to meet.

Amazon has pledged to support 3.8 million jobs, enable $80 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports, extend AI benefits to 15 million small businesses, and deliver AI education to 4 million government school students by 2030.

Beyond cloud, Amazon also plans to establish over 20 new logistics centres and more than 100 distribution stations across the country this year, reinforcing its e-commerce and quick-commerce operations simultaneously with its AI and cloud infrastructure expansion in India.
