Quantum Systems Raises $1.2B Series D at $8B Valuation

Munich-based autonomous drone maker Quantum Systems has raised $1.2 billion in a Series D round, more than doubling its valuation to $8 billion and underlining the surging investor appetite for European defence technology.

The Quantum Systems Series D co-led by Blackstone, Airbus, European growth investor Noteus, and private equity firm Advent, with backing from Fidelity, Wellington Management, A.P. Moller Holding, and, alongside returning investors Balderton Capital and HV Capital. The round designed to attract US and Asian capital as the company targets what co-CEO and co-founder Florian Seibel describes as a “next-generation neo prime” a sovereign European defence supplier operating at global scale.

Founded in 2015 by Seibel, a former Bundeswehr helicopter pilot, Quantum Systems began with agricultural survey drones before pivoting hard into defence. Today its autonomous ISR platforms are deployed by NATO forces across Europe, the US, Australia, New Zealand, and most prominently Ukraine, where the company’s fleet has operated since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Proceeds from the round will go toward international commercial expansion, higher production capacity, and acquisitions. A key focus is MOSAIC UXS, the company’s unified software platform connecting its hardware, sensors, counter-drone systems, and drone ports into a single operational network.

The raise lands in a defence market that has seen record capital inflows. European defence, security, and resilience startups raised $8.7 billion in 2025, up 55% year-on-year, with growth driven by large late-stage rounds. Quantum Systems is not the only Munich drone company attracting serious money rival Helsing raised $1.2 billion in May at a €12 billion valuation. The company is also in talks about a potential merger with German strike drone startup Stark, which Seibel himself founded as a separate company in 2024, even as a potential IPO remains under the board’s active consideration with no timeline confirmed.
