Meta Signs Multibillion-Dollar Deal With AWS for Agentic AI

Meta has signed a multibillion-dollar agreement with Amazon Web Services to deploy tens of millions of AWS Graviton5 processor cores, making Meta one of the largest Graviton customers in the world. The deal, running for at least three years, starts with tens of millions of Graviton5 cores and carries the flexibility to expand.
What makes this agreement stand out is the chip type at its centre. These are general-purpose processors, not AI accelerators, handling the CPU-intensive inference and orchestration tasks behind real-time reasoning and multi-step agents. While the industry has long obsessed over GPU shortages and Nvidia dominance, the Meta-Amazon Graviton agentic AI deal signals a meaningful pivot in how leading AI companies think about compute.
The deal reflects a broader shift in AI infrastructure: while GPUs remain essential for training large models, the rise of agentic AI is creating massive demand for CPU-intensive workloads real-time reasoning, code generation, search, and orchestrating multi-step tasks.
Santosh Janardhan, Meta’s head of infrastructure, explained the strategic logic plainly: expanding to Graviton allows Meta to run the CPU-intensive workloads behind agentic AI with the performance and efficiency needed at their scale.

In recent weeks, Meta also signed deals worth a combined $48 billion with CoreWeave and Nebius, both of which rent access to Nvidia GPUs for model training.The Graviton move complements rather than replaces those GPU commitments, reflecting a deliberate multi-chip infrastructure strategy.
The Meta deal also allows Amazon to showcase a major AI customer as a proving point for its homegrown CPUs, chips that now compete with Nvidia’s Vera CPU also ARM-based and designed for agentic AI workloads.
The Meta Amazon Graviton agentic AI deal is more than a procurement announcement. It is a signal that the next wave of AI infrastructure will be won not just on raw GPU power, but on purpose-built silicon for the agentic era.
