Nvidia’s NVentures Backs Alice & Bob in France’s €1 Billion Quantum Push
French quantum computing startup Alice & Bob has secured investment from NVentures, the venture capital arm of Nvidia, in a move that signals deepening confidence in the company’s approach to fault-tolerant quantum systems. The alice & bob quantum computing funding extends its Series B round to €100 million, though the specific size of NVentures’ stake was not disclosed.
Cat Qubits at the Center of the Bet
Alice & Bob is built around proprietary “cat qubit” technology a specialized type of quantum bit engineered to be significantly more resistant to errors than conventional qubits. Error correction remains one of the most stubborn barriers in quantum computing, and the Paris- and Boston-based company believes its architecture offers a more compact and cost-efficient path to building machines that can handle real-world computational tasks. The two companies have been collaborating since 2024 on tools including CUDA-Q, cuQuantum, and NVQLink.
The alice & bob quantum computing funding arrives amid unusually heavy state involvement across the sector globally. The Trump administration recently announced it would take $2 billion in equity stakes across nine quantum computing companies, framing the move as a push to maintain U.S. leadership ahead of China. France is running its own parallel effort. Alice & Bob sits inside the Proqcima programme as one of France’s two designated quantum hardware champions, with the country’s national quantum plan backed to €1.8 billion since 2021.
Alice & Bob also involved in France’s PROQCIMA program, a government-backed initiative aimed at developing French-designed universal quantum computer prototypes by 2032. The company has publicly set 2030 as its target for delivering a genuinely “useful” quantum computer and the fresh capital is being raised squarely against that timeline.
Alice & Bob CEO Théau Peronnin noted that computing infrastructure is becoming increasingly critical to modern economies, adding that the investment reflects a shared belief that future quantum systems will need to combine quantum and classical computing keeping Nvidia’s chips relevant even as quantum hardware matures.
