Yoco Acquires Dyner.ai to Bring AI Tools to 200K Businesses

Yoco acquires Dyner.ai

South African fintech Yoco has announced that it is acquiring Dyner.ai, an AI-native operating system built specifically for restaurants and independent businesses. The move signals a major shift as Yoco acquires Dyner.ai to expand well beyond its roots as a card payments company into a full-stack commerce and operations platform.

Yoco already serves as the preferred payments partner for more than 200,000 small businesses across South Africa, processing over $1 billion in card payments annually. The company, which raised $83 million in a Series C round back in 2021, has been steadily evolving its offering and this acquisition is its boldest move yet.

Actuaries Who Built for the Trenches

Dyner was founded by Thalentha Ngobeni and Chris du Plessis, both actuaries with backgrounds at Discovery. Their platform quietly built an intelligent system for restaurants, handling inventory, supplier workflows, reporting, and day-to-day operational management. Many of Dyner’s existing customers are already Yoco merchants, making the integration a natural fit.

Carl Wazen, co-founder and chief business officer at Yoco, said the team was struck not just by the quality of the product but by how deeply the Dyner founders had immersed themselves in the lived reality of running a restaurant.

The bigger picture here is about equity. Yoco believes AI will reshape how independent businesses operate over the next decade and that small business owners risk being left behind again, just as they were in the early days of digital payments. With this deal, Yoco acquires Dyner.ai to democratise access to intelligent tools that were historically reserved for large enterprises, giving Africa’s independent business owners a real seat at the table.
