Unitree Unveils AI Robot That Can Run Faster Than Usain Bolt’s Peak Speed

Chinese robotics company Unitree Robotics has unveiled a new humanoid robot that the company says can reach speeds beyond the peak speed recorded by sprint legend Usain Bolt.
Nicknamed “Superman,†the robot reportedly reached a top speed of 12.66 metres per second(28.3 mph). That is faster than Bolt’s recorded peak speed during his famous 9.58-second 100-metre world-record run.
Unitree also claims that Superman can perform a two-metre standing vertical jump, another remarkable demonstration of the robot’s physical capabilities. The company says the new machine was developed in just over three months.
The announcement comes as humanoid robotics continues to develop rapidly, particularly in China. Unitree has already gained attention for its H1 humanoid robot, which reached about 10.1 metres per second in an earlier sprint demonstration.
However, the comparison with Bolt should be understood carefully. The 12.66 m/s figure is a reported top speed, not a certified 100-metre race time. Bolt’s world record of 9.58 seconds remains the official human 100m record.
Still, Unitree’s latest demonstration highlights how quickly humanoid robots are improving in movement, balance and physical performance.
The company is now positioning itself as one of the major players in the global race to build increasingly capable humanoid robots.
