Roam airtime cashback is now live in Nigeria, and it works immediately. The fintech startup has launched a 3% instant cashback feature on airtime purchases, turning one of the most routine daily transactions into a small but consistent saving for every user.
The feature is straightforward to use. Every time a Roam user buys airtime, across MTN, Airtel, Glo, or 9mobile (T2), the app automatically credits 3% cashback to their account. No points system exists, no manual redemption is required, and no waiting period applies. The Roam airtime cashback simply lands in the user’s wallet after each qualifying purchase.
CEO Obinna Chukwujioke explained the thinking behind the launch clearly. In a statement shared via TechCabal, he noted that people buy airtime almost every day in Nigeria, and offering cashback on those purchases is a simple but meaningful way to reward users for transactions they are already making. The goal, consequently, is to make everyday financial behaviour work harder for users.
The launch arrives as Nigeria’s fintech space grows increasingly competitive around loyalty and rewards. Moreover, Roam is signalling that the airtime cashback feature is only the beginning. The company says it plans to extend the cashback benefit to electricity bill payments and mobile data purchases in the near future, potentially making Roam a go-to app for all recurring utility spend.
The broader Roam platform already supports dollar-denominated accounts and stablecoin-backed wallets, enabling users to send, receive, and hold money across borders while spending locally, all through a single application. Together with the new cashback feature, this positions Roam as a meaningful all-in-one financial tool for the everyday Nigerian user who wants both global access and real local rewards.
