Robinhood Secures UK Crypto Registration Ahead of New Regulatory Regime

Quick Reads:
  • Robinhood’s UK arm joined the FCA’s registered cryptoasset companies list on July 31.
  • The registration confirms Robinhood already meets the FCA’s anti-money laundering standards.
  • Over 50 firms, including Ripple, Kraken, BlackRock and BNY, hold similar approval.
  • The UK’s tougher, full crypto framework begins in October 2027, with applications opening this September.

Robinhood just scored a regulatory win in the UK, and the timing could not be sharper. The trading platform’s British business has secured its Robinhood UK crypto registration, officially joining the Financial Conduct Authority’s list of approved cryptoasset firms as of July 31, according to a CoinDesk report.

The move might sound like a routine compliance box-tick, but it carries real weight. Robinhood’s existing FCA registration confirms the company already satisfies the regulator’s anti-money laundering rules, a requirement that has been in place since 2020. Robinhood now joins a growing club of more than 50 firms cleared under this regime, including heavyweights like Ripple, Kraken, and even traditional finance giants BlackRock and BNY.

What makes this Robinhood UK crypto registration especially notable is its timing. The UK is preparing to roll out a far more comprehensive crypto regulatory framework, one that will replace the current lighter-touch AML-focused system entirely. That new regime doesn’t kick in until October 2027, but the application window is tight, opening at the end of September this year and slamming shut by the end of February 2027.

That narrow runway means firms without a head start could find themselves scrambling. Companies like Robinhood, already registered under the FCA’s existing rules, are effectively ahead in the queue, having already done much of the compliance groundwork regulators will expect under the tougher framework.

For a company that has aggressively expanded its crypto offerings globally, this UK approval strengthens Robinhood’s footprint in one of the world’s most closely watched financial markets, right as the rules of the game are about to change.
