The Mistral Vibe agent has arrived, marking a turning point for the French AI company. Recently, Mistral rebranded its Le Chat chatbot as Vibe. However, this change goes far beyond a new name. Vibe serves as a unified agent for long-running, multi-step work. It catches up on inboxes and calendars, conducts research, drafts deliverables, and manages recurring workflows.
To start, Mistral launched the Vibe agent with two distinct modes. Work Mode, available on web and mobile, handles long-horizon tasks across connected apps and tools. First, it creates a plan and requests user approval. Then, it executes tasks while streaming visible progress updates. Meanwhile, Code Mode launches remote coding agents through a dedicated web interface. It connects to GitHub, builds features, fixes bugs, and delivers reviewable pull requests.
In addition, Mistral introduced a new Vibe VS Code extension. This extension enables the coding agent to work across entire projects inside developers’ IDEs. Furthermore, Mistral upgraded the CLI with major new capabilities. These include custom modes, subagents, editable plans, session-scoped permissions, and a teleport command. As a result, users can move live sessions between the terminal and the cloud.
Moreover, the rebranding introduces Work Mode integrations. It connects Vibe with Google Workspace, Outlook, SharePoint, Slack, and custom connectors. Consequently, Mistral positions Vibe directly against tools like Cursor, Claude Code, and OpenAI Codex CLI. The move intensifies competition in the coding-agent market.
Meanwhile, existing Le Chat users experience no disruption. Mistral automatically transfers conversations, settings, and plans. Users continue using the same login credentials and URL. Pricing remains free for simple tasks. Additionally, the $14.99 monthly Pro plan unlocks advanced reasoning and all-day coding support. Finally, the Mistral Vibe agent is now live at chat.mistral.ai and available on iOS and Android.
