Anthropic NEC Japan AI Partnership to Create the Country’s Largest AI Engineering Workforce
Anthropic and NEC Corporation have announced a major strategic collaboration that could reshape Japan’s enterprise AI landscape. Under the deal, NEC will deploy Claude across its global operations, making the AI available to approximately 30,000 NEC Group employees worldwide with the goal of building one of Japan’s largest AI-native engineering organizations.
The Anthropic NEC Japan AI partnership makes NEC the first Japan-based global partner for Anthropic, marking a significant step in the AI company’s push into the Asian market. The two companies plan to co-develop secure, industry-specific AI products targeting Japan’s finance, manufacturing, and local government sectors industries that demand exceptionally high standards of safety and reliability.
Toshifumi Yoshizaki, Executive Officer and COO of NEC Corporation, said the long-term collaboration would help the company “maximize the potential of AI in the Japanese market,” with solutions designed to meet the quality standards required by both the private sector and public administration in Japan.
On the customer-facing side, NEC is already integrating Claude into its Security Operations Center services to bolster defenses against sophisticated cybersecurity threats. Claude, including the newly released Claude Opus 4.7, along with Claude Code, will be embedded into NEC BluStellar Scenario NEC’s flagship consulting and digital infrastructure program starting with data-driven management and customer experience offerings.
Internally, NEC will establish a dedicated Center of Excellence to train and grow a highly skilled AI-enabled engineering team, supported directly by Anthropic. The company will also expand its use of Claude Cowork across its internal business operations as part of its “Client Zero” initiative, where NEC tests technologies on itself before rolling them out to clients.
The Anthropic NEC Japan AI partnership is already live Claude is being deployed to NEC Group employees globally, and joint development of sector-specific AI solutions is underway.
