GitLab Named Leader in 2026 Gartner DevSecOps Quadrant Again
GitLab Leader status just got a fresh stamp of approval. For the fourth year in a row, Gartner has placed GitLab among the Leaders in its 2026 Magic Quadrant for DevSecOps Platforms. The company says this honor confirms what its customers already know.
So, what’s driving this recognition? Developers today write code faster than ever before. Most teams now use more than one AI assistant, and codebases are growing five times faster each year. However, speed alone hasn’t solved the bigger problem.
In fact, faster code creates new bottlenecks elsewhere. Pipelines still need wiring. Security issues still need clearing. Deployments still need sequencing. Therefore, fixing one stage often just pushes the slowdown further down the line.
This is exactly where the GitLab Leader position comes into play. The company argues that the real challenge isn’t writing code anymore. Instead, it’s turning AI-generated output into software teams can trust and ship safely. GitLab calls this approach “speed with control.”
As agents multiply across organizations, governance becomes harder to manage. Many companies struggle to track who runs these agents, what data they touch, and whether their actions can be audited. Because of this gap, GitLab positions itself as the control layer that keeps everything visible and accountable.
Major enterprises already lean on this approach. Ericsson, for instance, cut its deployment time in half using GitLab’s platform. Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines relies on it for around-the-clock operations, and Barclays uses it to meet strict compliance demands.
Gartner also praised GitLab’s reliability improvements. The company now backs a 99.9% monthly uptime commitment for Ultimate customers, alongside service credits if that threshold isn’t met. Additionally, GitLab introduced five new innovations at its recent Transcend event, including a faster source code engine and a new context graph called GitLab Orbit.
Looking ahead, GitLab plans to keep shipping new features monthly, a streak that has now lasted over 175 consecutive months. This consistency, the company says, is central to why Gartner recognized its platform again this year.
