Grafana 13.1 Brings AI Assistant to More Data Sources
Grafana Labs has rolled out Grafana 13.1, and it brings real upgrades for engineering teams. The release builds on the foundation laid by Grafana 13 earlier this year. As a result, observability now gets faster, smarter, and more flexible.
First, Grafana 13.1 extends Grafana Assistant, the platform’s AI-powered agent, to eight new data sources. These include Snowflake, Oracle, Elasticsearch, Dynatrace, Honeycomb, Zabbix, Jira, and MongoDB. Consequently, teams can now ask one question and pull answers from across their entire stack. For instance, an investigation that starts with an alert can pull in error rates from Dynatrace, query performance from Oracle, and recent deployments from Jira, all in one conversation. No more switching between five different dashboards. Additionally, Grafana Assistant now comes pre-installed in Grafana Enterprise, so no plugin installation is required.
Meanwhile, Git Sync also gets four major upgrades in this release. Notably, teams can now import dashboard JSON straight into a Git Sync-provisioned folder, picking the file path, branch, and commit message during import. Furthermore, dashboards can now sync at the root level without needing a containing folder. This helps teams whose Git repo represents their whole Grafana setup. Also, folders now display their README files inline by default. Therefore, context travels with the dashboard, not separately. Finally, Git Sync can sign commits automatically using GPG, SSH, or S/MIME keys, so Git providers mark them as verified. This matters because teams with strict branch protection rules previously couldn’t use Git Sync at all.
Beyond that, dashboarding itself becomes more flexible too. Section-level variables, which let teams apply variables to each row or tab instead of the whole dashboard, are now generally available. So, an API gateway row can scope to one set of instances while a database row scopes to another, all within the same dashboard. Also, the revamped query editor enters public preview with multi-select and a new stacked view, making complex queries far easier to build.
For Nigerian tech teams, this update solves a real pain point. Many Nigerian fintech and telecom companies juggle data scattered across tools like Jira and MongoDB. With Grafana Assistant now reaching those sources directly, engineers in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt can troubleshoot faster, without constantly jumping between platforms. Given Nigeria’s growing observability and DevOps community, this kind of consolidation could meaningfully cut down incident response time for local engineering teams.
