Mistral AI Acquires Emmi AI to Dominate Industrial Engineering
Mistral AI has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Emmi AI, a Physics AI startup founded in Austria, in a move that positions the French AI company at the center of industrial transformation worldwide. The Mistral AI acquires Emmi AI deal brings together two of the most ambitious teams in applied AI, with a shared focus on solving some of engineering’s hardest problems.
Emmi AI built its reputation by developing large engineering models capable of replacing multi-day computations with real-time simulations, powering digital twins, and accelerating product design cycles for industrial players. Its team of more than 30 researchers and engineers will join Mistral AI’s Science and Applied AI teams immediately.
For Mistral, the acquisition is a direct investment in its Science roadmap. The company has been working to extend its models’ ability to understand and simulate physics, and to enable AI agents to work natively with existing engineering tools. Emmi AI’s capabilities slot directly into that vision.
“This strategic acquisition cements Mistral AI’s leadership in industrial AI and positions us as the partner of choice for manufacturers in high-stakes sectors like aerospace, automotive, or semiconductors,” said Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral AI.
Guillaume Lample, co-founder and Chief Science Officer, described the deal as a step toward breaking “long-standing technical barriers that have slowed progress for decades,” promising real-time simulations and sophisticated digital twins as the combined team scales up.
Johannes Brandstetter, Emmi AI’s co-founder and Chief Science Officer, pointed to applications ranging from power grid stabilization to injection molding and automotive safety testing. He called the integration a pivotal moment for the broader AI4Science movement.
With this acquisition, Mistral AI acquires Emmi AI’s rare talent pool alongside a technology stack built for sectors where failure is not an option. The bet is clear: the next wave of industrial innovation will run on AI, and Mistral intends to be the engine behind it.
