NEC XON–Mimosa deal expands wireless broadband across Africa.
Laying fibre across every corner of Africa is not realistic. The distances are too vast, the terrain too difficult, the cost too high in too many places. NEC Xon has formed a strategic distribution partnership with Mimosa Networks to address exactly that gap.
NEC XON–Mimosa Wireless Connectivity Deal
The NEC Xon–Mimosa partnership positions NEC Xon as a distributor of Mimosa’s carrier-grade wireless technology, helping operators, service providers, and enterprises deploy fast, scalable connectivity where fibre is limited or too costly.
Mimosa, a subsidiary of Radisys under Reliance Jio Platforms, delivers fibre-like performance using TDMA scheduling, MU-MIMO, and beamforming. Its systems operate on unlicensed 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands, which enables faster rollout and lower deployment costs than traditional infrastructure.
NEC XON–Mimosa Solutions Now Live
NEC Xon has already deployed Mimosa solutions across Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, Namibia, and Malawi. In addition, it is running pilot projects in Ethiopia and Lesotho. As a result, the company continues to expand its footprint as demand for flexible wireless networks grows.
Furthermore, NEC Xon expects to install between 2,000 and 5,000 devices within the next 12 months. This expansion reflects how operators and enterprises are increasingly adopting wireless options to supplement or replace fibre networks.

In response, he explains that the technology helps partners deliver scalable, high-capacity wireless networks with strong cost advantages.
The partnership also supports rural broadband expansion, enterprise connectivity, and the rapid restoration of services after infrastructure damage or disasters. Overall, this helps close connectivity gaps across Africa.

Beyond initial deployments, the partnership is expected to play a key role in enabling broader connectivity initiatives, including rural broadband expansion, enterprise connectivity and the restoration of connectivity following infrastructure damage or natural disaster.
Africa’s digital economy is growing fast. The infrastructure needed to carry it is still catching up. The NEC Xon Mimosa wireless connectivity model is one of the more practical answers to that gap, now operating at scale.
