Nedbank Ends Seven-Month Search with Appointment of Nikos Angelopoulos as Group CIO
Nedbank has appointed Nikos Angelopoulos as its new Group Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective 1 September 2026, ending a seven-month search for a permanent technology leader following the departure of former Group CIO Ray Naicker.
Angelopoulos joins the South African banking group with more than 30 years of experience in technology leadership, management consulting, and telecommunications. Throughout his career, he has led large-scale digital transformation, enterprise technology, and innovation initiatives across the banking, telecommunications, and consulting sectors. His work includes;
- 2026 – Present: Group CIO, Nedbank
- 2018 – 2026: Group CIO, MTN
- 2016 – 2018: EVP, IT & Product Engineering
- 2012 – 2016: Regional CIO, Vodafone Italy
- 2004 – 2008: Partner, Accenture
According to Nedbank, the appointment comes as the bank accelerates its strategic priorities by strengthening the role of digital technologies, data, artificial intelligence (AI), and innovation in delivering exceptional client experiences.
The bank said Angelopoulos’ leadership will play a key role in advancing its technology strategy and driving its digital transformation ambitions.
