Hugging Face widely known as a major platform where developers and companies can discover, share and build AI models, datasets and other machine-learning tools. The platform has become an important part of the open-source AI community.
According to the report, the acquisition would give Nvidia control of a strategic platform at a time when competition between open and closed AI models is intensifying. Nvidia has already invested in Hugging Face and has been expanding its presence across AI infrastructure, software and model development.
The reported $12.9 billion price tag would represent a major increase from Hugging Face’s previous valuation of $4.5 billion in 2023.
