Reach Capital has raised $265 million for its fifth fund, as the venture capital firm increases its focus on startups using artificial intelligence to improve how people learn, work and access healthcare. The fund was announced as oversubscribed, according to TechCrunch.
The San Francisco-based investment firm has been investing in education technology for more than a decade. With its new fund, however, Reach is expanding its focus to companies using AI across learning, health and work.
The firm says its goal is to support founders building technology that can “expand human potential.†Rather than focusing on AI designed simply to replace people, Reach wants to invest in products that can help people become more capable and productive.
Fund V will invest from the pre-seed stage through Series A, with plans to back around 50 companies over the next three years. Reach expects to write checks ranging from about $1 million to $10 million.
The firm’s previous investments include companies such as Replit, ClassDojo and Coral Care, showing its long-standing interest in technology connected to education and human development.
The new fund comes as AI continues to attract large amounts of venture capital. But Reach Capital is taking a more focused approach, looking for startups where AI can solve practical problems in important parts of everyday life.
