SpaceX IPO Launches Musk Into Trillionaire Territory

Twenty-four years after Elon Musk started a rocket company in a warehouse in El Segundo, it went public on the Nasdaq and made him a trillionaire. SpaceX began trading under the ticker SPCX on June 12, 2026, in the largest IPO in history.

SpaceX stock went live on the Nasdaq Exchange just before 10 a.m. MDT Friday, opening at $150 per share, 11% over its IPO price of $135 and popping to $160 in minutes, pushing the company’s market capitalisation past the $2 trillion mark. At the close of regular trading, SpaceX stock was trading around $161 per share after briefly breaching the $176 mark earlier in the day.

The Numbers Behind the SpaceX IPO Nasdaq Debut

SpaceX, officially Space Exploration Technologies Corp., began trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker SPCX after raising $75 billion in the largest IPO ever. Elon Musk rang the opening bell from Texas, calling the moment hard to believe for a company that started in a small warehouse in 2002.

The debut made Musk the world’s first trillionaire, with his combined stakes in SpaceX and Tesla pushing his wealth above $1 trillion. Despite years of heavy losses and massive spending on AI, SpaceX executives remain confident in the company’s future.

SpaceX’s blockbuster listing also sets the stage for upcoming AI-related IPOs from Anthropic and OpenAI later this year.
