Swoop’s $7.3M Seed Round Bets Big on Nigeria’s Food Delivery

Eswatini-based startup Swoop has secured a $7.3 million seed round to fuel its first international expansion and Nigeria is its opening move. The Swoop seed round Nigeria expansion marks one of the largest disclosed seed raises by an African consumer startup, signalling serious Silicon Valley confidence in the continent’s digital economy.

The round drew backing from strong cohort of investors; Long Journey, Variant, Version One, Dune Ventures, Soma Capital, Zero Knowledge Ventures, Walter Kortschak, and Base Capital. Swoop plans to use the capital to build out a consumer platform anchored by food delivery, with a broader super app vision on the horizon.

Nigeria’s food delivery sector is the battleground Swoop is walking into and it is not small. The Market was valued at $1.1 billion in 2025, and according to payments processor Paystack, grew 187% between 2021 and 2024. Swoop believes the opportunity largely untapped.

Unconverted Consumers

“It’s super hard to build a super app, and our investors recognise that,” said Demola Adesina, Swoop’s Nigerian country manager. The company is not chasing existing food delivery users it wants to convert Nigerians who have never ordered online at all. In Comparison to peer markets across Africa and Southeast Asia, Nigeria’s ratio of delivery orders to meals eaten outside the home remains low, leaving enormous growth potential on the table.

The Swoop seed round Nigeria expansion puts it in direct competition with established players. For context, Chowdeck raised a $9 million Series A in August 2025 after four years of operations. Swoop arrives with nearly comparable capital at seed stage an aggressive, confident entry into one of Africa’s most competitive digital markets.
