Zopa, ClearScore Launch AI Initiative to Train 100,000 UK Fintech Workers by 2030

Two of Britain’s most prominent digital finance firms have joined forces to tackle one of the sector’s most pressing problems. Zopa Bank and the ClearScore Group have formally unveiled the first 22 member organisations of Jobs2030, an industry-wide coalition committed to UK fintech AI upskilling on a scale never attempted before. The target: 100,000 professionals trained in Generative AI disciplines by the end of 2030.

The initiative, which first launched in late 2025, has already attracted a striking mix of institutions. Digital challengers like Allica Bank and Funding Circle sit alongside high-street stalwart NatWest, professional services giant EY, and academic powerhouses including Oxford Saïd Business School and Alliance Manchester Business School.

The urgency behind this UK fintech AI upskilling push is hard to ignore. Research cited by the coalition estimates that Generative AI could unlock £1.8 billion in cost savings for UK banks by 2030, but that same wave of automation is expected to displace up to 27,000 roles, particularly in back-office functions and retail banking. That tension between opportunity and disruption is precisely what Jobs2030 is designed to navigate.

Clare Gambardella, chief customer officer at Zopa Bank, framed the stakes plainly: equipping workers with the confidence and practical tools to navigate the AI transition is not just good for employees, but essential to building a resilient financial ecosystem and delivering better customer outcomes. The programme’s 2026 curriculum launches with five specialised courses covering compliance, engineering, operations, and product management, with 12 expert-designed modules expected to be live before the year is out.

What makes the Jobs2030 model distinctive is its delivery mechanism. Modules are hosted on the Zenarate learning platform and integrate directly with leading large language models, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude, enabling workers to practise through live simulations and real-world banking scenarios rather than passive content.

The coalition operates as a voluntary ESG initiative, free to join, built on a collaborative “B2B2C” principle: each member firm agrees to co-create one training module within their first 12 months, and in exchange, their entire workforce gains immediate access to the full shared curriculum. It is a model designed to grow faster than any single organisation could manage alone.

Justin Basini, co-founder and CEO of the ClearScore Group, put it directly, AI advantage in financial services will not come from tools alone, but from people who know how to wield them with skill and judgment. Jobs2030, he said, is built to ensure that confidence and responsibility go hand in hand with capability.

The initiative has drawn institutional weight from beyond the private sector too. Innovate Finance and the City of London Corporation will help drive membership across their networks, while the Financial Services Skills Commission joins as an observer. Economic Secretary to the Treasury Lucy Rigby KC MP also publicly endorsed the launch, describing it as critical that people have the skills to seize the opportunities that come with the safe adoption of AI.

Both Zopa and ClearScore are already putting their own AI infrastructure to work, reporting that they automate thousands of customer service interactions every month using GenAI, with customer satisfaction scores rising as a result. Jobs2030 is their bid to make that kind of progress a sector-wide story, not just a competitive advantage for the few.
