Volta emerged from stealth on Tuesday as an NVIDIA Cloud Partner. The company unveiled major partnerships to expand AI infrastructure across Europe and North America. It announced a $10 billion partnership with a leading AI lab to build a 133 MW AI factory in Norway. It also launched a $5 billion AI Infrastructure Program with Azora.

The company also revealed its Seed and Series A funding. The round valued Volta at $2.4 billion. Azora, Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter, and NVIDIA led the investment. Michael Dell and Matter Venture Partners also participated.

“Compute has become a new infrastructure asset class, with AI models and applications as the verticals built on top,” said Ricard Boada. “Every technology revolution has run on a physical layer beneath it. Railways carried industrialisation. Electricity lit manufacturing. Fibre carried the internet. We founded Volta because compute should be financed, developed, and commercialised with the principles and scale of infrastructure. Our ambition is to build The Utility of Computeâ„¢ so that compute works as reliably and invisibly as electricity, while being priced transparently and built to endure.”

Volta’s emergence reflects a broader trend in the AI sector. Rather than relying solely on cloud providers, companies are building dedicated AI factories and infrastructure platforms to secure long-term computing capacity. That shift is creating what industry leaders increasingly describe as a new AI infrastructure economy.
