Claude Fable 5 on GitLab Duo Brings Faster, Smarter AI Agents

Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 is now live on GitLab Duo Agent Platform, and it is not a minor upgrade. This is a Mythos-class model built to handle the kind of complex, multi-step work that previously required constant human nudging.
Claude Fable 5 is available across all tiers and deployment models through GitLab’s AI Gateway, which started June 9, 2026. That means both SaaS and self-managed users can access it today.
So what makes Claude Fable 5 on GitLab Duo Agent Platform different? First, it gets things right the first time, more often. Early testers saw single-pass implementations of systems that once took days of back-and-forth. In GitLab Duo Agentic Chat, that translates directly to less iteration and faster results on complex tasks like multi-file refactors, incident investigations, and infrastructure-as-code work.
Furthermore, long-horizon autonomy is perhaps the biggest shift. Claude Fable 5 can sustain productive output across multi-day, goal-directed runs. It self-corrects through verification loops, stays on task, and dispatches parallel sub-agents more reliably than previous models. For teams using GitLab Duo agents, workflows that once needed manual checkpoints can now run to completion.
For engineering leaders, this matters operationally. Claude Fable 5 reduces the human oversight cost per agent run. Teams can assign harder problems, check results asynchronously, and trust the output. It also catches more bugs. Code review through GitLab Duo Agent Platform now surfaces edge cases that earlier models missed, producing comments that are actionable rather than generic.
On data handling, Claude Fable 5 belongs to Anthropic’s Mythos capability class, which carries a 30-day data retention requirement for trust and safety. Importantly, retained data is not used to train Claude. Customers can also add their own encryption keys and retrieve tamper-proof audit logs. Data is deleted automatically after 30 days. Customers on zero data retention configurations are excluded from Claude Fable 5, as that requirement cannot be waived at this class level.
Access runs through three paths: Direct API, Google Cloud, and Amazon Bedrock. For Google Cloud and Amazon Bedrock users, retained data stays within your cloud environment.
GitLab recommends starting with your hardest unsolved problem. Point Claude Fable 5 at the tasks you assumed prior AI models could not handle. Use GitLab Duo Agentic Chat to investigate production incidents, or assign a complex multi-file refactor to a Duo agent and let it run. That is where the real difference shows.
