Baidu Swiss Robotaxi Service Wins Major Regulatory Approval

Baidu Swiss robotaxi service AmiGo has just secured a major regulatory milestone. Switzerland’s Federal Roads Office granted the service a special Level 4 operating permit. Consequently, AmiGo can now run driverless trials across roughly 80 square kilometers in eastern Switzerland.

Baidu developed the service alongside PostBus, Switzerland’s national public bus operator. Together, the partners aim to complement existing public transport where conventional services fall short. PostBus CEO Stefan Regli said the partnership makes automated mobility in public transport tangible.

Meanwhile, the fully electric RT6 vehicles will carry up to three passengers each trip. Each vehicle also carries more than 30 sensors for safer navigation. As Tech in Asia reports, riders will eventually book trips through a dedicated AmiGo app.

However, safety operators still remain onboard during this current testing phase. Therefore, Baidu plans regular, fully driverless operations only once all safety checks clear. By early 2027, the companies hope this Baidu Swiss robotaxi service becomes Europe’s largest automated transit operation.
