Botswana Tech Fund Targets $64M for Southern Africa Startups

The Botswana Tech Fund (BTF) has officially launched as a multi-stage venture capital initiative targeting US$64 million in total commitments, setting its sights on powering tech startups across Southern Africa. The fund is structured to support founders from pre-seed all the way through to growth stage, signalling serious long-term ambition for the region’s startup ecosystem.
BTF’s initial deployment phase will put US$6.4 million to work, including US$1.3 million ring-fenced specifically for pre-seed founders a segment that often struggles most to access early capital. The Botswana Tech Fund Southern Africa startups drive designed to take advantage of Botswana’s relatively stable macroeconomic conditions, strong governance record, and high internet penetration rates to back scalable, technology-enabled businesses within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
A Strategic Alliance Driving the Fund Forward
The initiative structured as a partnership between venture capital operators and family office investors. Launch Africa Ventures will serve as investment adviser for phase one, while Pula Investments steps in as the anchor investor. Together, they bring both operational expertise and financial weight to what could become one of Southern Africa’s most consequential early-stage funds.
To deepen its roots in the local ecosystem, BTF has also secured a partnership with the Botswana Innovation Hub, which will provide portfolio companies with physical infrastructure, access to local deal pipelines, and integration into the country’s national innovation framework. If BTF achieves its full $64 million commitment target, it would represent a transformational injection of capital into an often-overlooked but rapidly growing part of the African startup landscape.
