Jeff Bezos Exits Stealth With Prometheus, a $41 Billion AI Startup

Five years after stepping down as Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos is back at the helm of a company. His Jeff Bezos Prometheus AI startup officially emerged from stealth on Thursday, announcing a $12 billion Series B funding round at a valuation of $41 billion instantly placing it among the most richly capitalised AI ventures ever, without having shipped a single public product.
In addition to Bezos’ personal investment, backers include JPMorgan, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, and venture capital firms DST Global and Arch Venture Partners. Combined with its initial $6.2 billion raise in November 2025, Prometheus has now pulled in over $18 billion in total funding.
An AI Built for the Physical World
Bezos serves as co-CEO alongside Vik Bajaj, a professor at Stanford University’s School of Medicine who previously co-founded Alphabet’s Verily, a life sciences research lab. The two spoke publicly about the startup for the first time in an exclusive interview with CNBC’s David Faber from Prometheus’ San Francisco headquarters.
Prometheus is developing AI systems focused on physical-world tasks engineering, manufacturing, and drug discovery. Bezos describes the vision as building an “artificial general engineer,” training AI not primarily on text, but on the physical constraints that govern how things are designed and built.
The company’s goal is to do for engineering and manufacturing what large language models have done for text. Beyond software, Prometheus has also explored a $100 billion acquisition fund to buy and operate existing manufacturing companies, positioning it as a vertically integrated industrial holding company as much as an AI lab.
Physical AI broadly defined as AI systems that interact with, design for, or operate in the physical world has become one of the hottest investment categories of 2025 and 2026. With Bezos now publicly anchoring its most ambitious bet, Prometheus has the capital, the credibility, and the attention to match.
