Lumilens AI Connectivity Funding Hits $900M as Stealth Ends

Lumilens AI connectivity funding has reached a major milestone. The San Jose-based startup emerged from stealth this month with more than $900 million in total capital raised. Its latest round, a Series C worth over $700 million, values the company at $5.51 billion. Investors including Atreides Management, Bain Capital Ventures, Meritech, Seligman Ventures, and Spark Capital co-led the financing. The round also drew Qualcomm Ventures, J.P. Morgan Private Capital, and more than a dozen other backers.
Founded in 2024, Lumilens builds optical interconnects for AI data centers. These interconnects link thousands of GPUs so they behave as one system. The company already ships its first product into a hyperscaler’s production data centers. This deployment happened under a multi-billion-dollar customer agreement, just two years after launch. Meanwhile, the AI industry’s core constraint is shifting fast. Buying GPUs is no longer the hardest part; connecting them now is. A single 400,000-GPU data center needs over 2.4 million optical transceivers, according to the company. However, transceiver supply cannot keep pace with that demand.
Founder and CEO Ankur Singla framed the shift clearly. “The constraint on AI has shifted from how many GPUs you can buy to how many you can connect,” he said. Hyperscalers, he added, need both more optical capacity and a path to linking thousands of GPUs directly. Singla is a repeat networking entrepreneur. Juniper Networks acquired his first company, Contrail Systems, while F5 bought his second, Volterra. He built Lumilens with CTO Ted Schmidt, a former Juniper distinguished engineer who pioneered silicon photonics work there.
Competition in the optical interconnect space is intensifying rapidly. According to Tech Funding News, rivals like Ayar Labs and Celestial AI have also raised large rounds this year. Still, Lumilens stands out because it already ships live products, not just prototypes. The company builds on its LumiCore platform, which combines silicon photonics, mixed-signal chips, and in-house manufacturing. This approach lets Lumilens move from design to customer-ready products in months. As AI infrastructure spending races toward $2.8 trillion by 2029, connectivity is fast becoming the new battleground.
