OpenAI acquires NextSlide in its latest push to turn ChatGPT into a full workplace tool. The deal folds a small presentation startup into OpenAI’s growing acquisition list. Founder Ahmed Beshry confirmed the deal closed earlier in 2026. However, he only announced it publicly this month, calling the news “a few months late” on LinkedIn.

NextSlide built software that turns prompts, notes, documents, and research into editable slide decks. Beshry explained the mission in a farewell note on the company’s own site, which confirmed NextSlide had been acquired by OpenAI. He said the goal was never just speed. Instead, he wanted to help more people express ideas clearly through visual communication.

Now, the entire NextSlide team works directly on ChatGPT. Beshry says that mission continues under OpenAI’s roof. Meanwhile, TechCrunch reported that NextSlide’s site still displays his note describing the startup’s product. That product promised polished presentations without requiring design skills. OpenAI, for its part, has not disclosed financial terms of the acquisition. This fits a pattern of smaller, talent-focused deals OpenAI has made this year.

This isn’t Beshry’s first exit, either. He previously co-founded Caper AI, a cashierless checkout startup. Instacart acquired that company back in 2021. That earlier experience gave him a head start navigating this new acquisition cycle. Additionally, industry watchers note that NextSlide lasted only about a year before this deal. That compressed timeline reveals how aggressively OpenAI buys talent rather than building in-house.

As a result, this acquisition pits OpenAI against established players in AI presentations. Gamma, Microsoft’s Copilot, and Canva all already offer similar slide-generation tools. However, ChatGPT’s massive weekly user base gives OpenAI a clear distribution edge. Therefore, OpenAI could soon turn presentation creation into a built-in ChatGPT feature. So far, though, the company has not announced a launch timeline for these tools.
