OpenAI Codex Record and Replay Turns Any Workflow Into a Reusable Skill
OpenAI has launched a new feature for its Codex app on macOS that lets the AI agent learn a task by watching a user do it once. Called OpenAI Codex Record and Replay, the feature records a workflow demonstrated by the user, converts it into a reusable “skill,” and then executes it independently on demand.
The practical applications are immediate. A user can walk Codex through something like uploading a YouTube video with its metadata, thumbnail, and subtitles. After that single demonstration, Codex handles the entire process on its own going forward. The feature requires Computer Use to be enabled, which has been available in the EU since June 16. However, Record and Replay itself is not yet available in the EU, the UK, or Switzerland.
The update also ships with several other additions under version 26.616, including bulk actions for the Automations history panel and the ability to hand off threads between a local and remote host, allowing tasks to continue on a connected machine without interruption.
Codex is OpenAI’s AI agent built for coding and white-collar work automation. The app is free to download, but accessing its full capabilities requires a paid ChatGPT subscription. With OpenAI Codex Record and Replay now in the mix, the agent moves closer to handling repetitive knowledge work with minimal ongoing input from users.
