The company backs this claim with concrete numbers. Specifically, the new device is 40% smaller than its predecessor, the Ring 4.
The engineering behind this reduction is substantial. Oura rebuilt every architectural layer of the device to achieve a slimmer, more comfortable silhouette. Moreover, 12 signal pathways now deliver greater accuracy across a wider range of finger types and skin tones. The device also produces a pulse signal up to 100 times stronger than wrist-based wearables.
Battery life, despite the smaller size, improved rather than declined. The Oura Ring 5 lasts between six and nine days per charge, compared to five to eight days on the Ring 4. Additionally, an optional Charging Case, sold separately at $99, provides up to one month of combined battery life with wireless charging on the go.
On the software side, the launch goes well beyond hardware. New features include blood pressure signals, live activity tracking with real-time pace and heart rate, and Health Records integration that connects eligible healthcare providers. Furthermore, a Brain Health Study through Oura Labs pairs cognitive assessments with biometric data. A new Data Deletion tool also lets users erase data from specific periods without clearing their full history.
Competition clearly accelerated this launch. Subscription-free rivals like RingConn and Ultrahuman have intensified market pressure, and this new ring arrives just 18 months after the Ring 4, a much shorter cycle than the roughly three-year gap between the Ring 3 and Ring 4.
