Pinterest Signs $4 Billion AWS Deal to Power AI Discover

Pinterest AWS Trainium deal

Pinterest has signed its largest infrastructure deal ever, committing $4 billion to Amazon Web Services through 2031 to power a new wave of AI-driven visual discovery. The Pinterest AWS Trainium deal covers AI workloads and expands the platform’s existing use of Amazon’s custom silicon chips. The agreement was announced on June 4 and builds on a partnership that stretches back to 2010, when Pinterest first moved its infrastructure onto AWS.

Under the terms, Pinterest will use AWS Trainium to host and run the large language models and vision-language models that power personalized visual search and AI-assisted discovery across its platform. Graviton currently accounts for one-third of Pinterest’s overall infrastructure, and the new deal expands its role further. Together, the two chip families cover both the training and inference sides of Pinterest’s AI stack Trainium handling the heavy lifting of model training, and Graviton running the real-time systems that serve results to users.

The Biggest Bet in Pinterest’s History

Pinterest posted 631 million monthly active users and $1.008 billion in revenue in Q1 2026, an 18% year-over-year increase. Serving that scale of users, with AI features running across every query and feed recommendation, demands long-term compute commitments that spot pricing cannot reliably support.

“This expanded commitment with AWS gives us the compute flexibility, hardware optionality, and infrastructure efficiency to accelerate our AI vision for the next generation of visual discovery on Pinterest,” said Pinterest CTO Matt Madrigal.

The deal also follows a significant internal restructuring. Pinterest’s January 2026 restructuring reduced approximately 780 roles while explicitly reallocating resources toward AI functions making the AWS agreement the infrastructure counterpart to that workforce shift. The investment is also central to Pinterest’s push to strengthen its Performance+ advertising suite, helping it compete more directly against TikTok and Meta’s Instagram and Facebook. AWS has signed a series of similar chip-usage agreements worth several billion dollars in recent months, including deals with Snowflake and Meta that also include Graviton chips.
