HCP Terraform Now Enforces Governance at Project Level

Managing infrastructure governance across hundreds of workspaces has long been painful for platform teams. Previously, Terraform run tasks only worked at the organization or workspace level. As teams scaled, that limitation forced them to configure controls for each workspace manually, a process that invited drift and inconsistency.
HCP Terraform project-level run tasks solve exactly that problem. HashiCorp announced the feature in public beta, and it fundamentally changes how teams apply governance at scale.
Projects sit between Organizations and Workspaces in HCP Terraform, naturally grouping infrastructure by application, environment, or business unit. With HCP Terraform project-level run tasks, organization owners now attach run tasks to an entire project instead of individual workspaces. As a result, any workspace created within, or moved into, that project automatically inherits the required controls. No manual setup needed.
This matters especially when different environments demand different standards. Production workloads, for instance, often require stricter compliance checks than development environments. Previously, enforcing that distinction meant configuring each workspace by hand. Now, teams set it once at the project level and instantly apply it everywhere within that project.
The outcome is faster scaling with far less risk. Platform teams eliminate configuration drift, and security standards stay consistent across environments as infrastructure grows. At the same time, teams can still apply granular exclusions where operational flexibility matters most.
HCP Terraform project-level run tasks are available now and coming soon to Terraform Enterprise. Teams new to Terraform can start for free at HCP Terraform.
