Salesforce’s Anthropic Stake Hits $5 Billion Before IPO Filing

What started as a $50 million bet three years ago has quietly grown into one of the most valuable positions in Silicon Valley. Salesforce now holds a stake in Anthropic worth approximately $5 billion, after repeatedly investing in the AI startup since early 2023. The disclosure sent shockwaves through financial markets and put the Salesforce Anthropic stake at the centre of one of the biggest AI stories of the year.
A Long-Term Bet That Paid Off
Salesforce first invested in Anthropic’s Series C and has supported every round since, including Anthropic’s Series G in February 2026. That consistent commitment has turned out to be extraordinarily well-timed. That figure predates Anthropic’s latest $65 billion funding round, which valued the company at $965 billion more than doubling its previous valuation. After the revaluation, the Salesforce Anthropic stake alone represents roughly two-thirds of Salesforce’s entire strategic investment portfolio.
The financial upside is only half the story. Anthropic’s models now power AI features across Salesforce’s product suite, including Slack, and CEO Marc Benioff has said Salesforce will spend $300 million on Anthropic tokens in 2026. This is not just a financial investment it is a structural dependency that has woven Claude into the backbone of Salesforce’s enterprise offerings.
Meanwhile, Anthropic has confidentially filed a draft IPO prospectus with the SEC, shortly after completing the $65 billion funding round that pushed Anthropic ahead of OpenAI as the world’s most valuable AI startup. The IPO buzz is also lifting other early backers. Zoom said its Anthropic stake was worth about $1.27 billion based on Anthropic’s February 2026 financing round.
Following the news, Salesforce’s shares rose by approximately 10% on Monday. For investors who had been watching Salesforce nurse a 21% year-to-date loss, the Anthropic windfall was a welcome development and a reminder that enterprise software’s boldest AI gambles are beginning to pay out.
