TEPCO and Accenture Launch AI Reinvention Deal Worth JPY 10B

TOKYO, Japan’s power sector just made a bold AI bet. TEPCO Solution Advance, a subsidiary of the Tokyo Electric Power Company Group, has partnered with Accenture to overhaul its operating model. Together, they are launching a five-year TEPCO Accenture AI reinvention program. The target? Over JPY 10 billion in cumulative value creation.
The announcement came on June 3, 2026. It marks a clear shift, from traditional, labor-intensive workflows to AI-powered business services. TEPCO Solution Advance employs approximately 2,400 people. The company handles customer contract administration, billing operations, and field services across Japan’s electricity and gas sectors.
Central to the TEPCO Accenture AI reinvention effort is the company’s TSA2040 Vision, established in 2025. In short, the vision calls for equipping workers with digital capabilities. As a result, staff can better serve customers and help build a more autonomous, resilient organization.
The program rests on three core pillars. First, both companies will co-create an AI-ready digital foundation. Specifically, they will design and operate the applications, architecture, and infrastructure needed to enable AI at scale. Second, the partnership targets operational transparency. This means making end-to-end processes visible and executing clear transformation roadmaps. Third, the program builds robust governance and change management systems. Consequently, progress will be monitored through steering committees and ongoing governance forums.
Akira Tanahashi, President and Representative Director of TEPCO Solution Advance, was direct about the ambition. “This partnership is not about efficiency alone,” he said. “It is about reinventing our business model to continuously create higher value.” He added that combining Accenture’s reinvention expertise with TEPCO’s frontline knowledge is essential to building a truly AI-driven enterprise.
Meanwhile, Accenture’s Senior Managing Director for Japan, Takaaki Haraguchi, stressed that sustained growth demands continuous reinvention, and speed. Accenture, he noted, brings proprietary assets and deep process expertise to deliver measurable outcomes. The firm serves around 9,000 clients globally and generated approximately $70 billion in FY25 revenue.
Finally, TEPCO Solution Advance plans to push beyond the power sector. The company intends to extend its AI-driven services to other infrastructure industries facing labour shortages. That broader ambition makes the TEPCO Accenture AI reinvention collaboration one of the most significant industrial partnerships to watch in Japan this year.
