OpenAI and AdventHealth Team Up to Bring AI Into Hospital Care
OpenAI has officially partnered with AdventHealth as part of the rollout of its new ChatGPT for Healthcare platform, marking a significant step in bringing artificial intelligence directly into clinical and administrative workflows at one of the country’s largest health systems.
The OpenAI AdventHealth AI partnership is part of a broader launch called OpenAI for Healthcare, unveiled in January 2026. The platform includes ChatGPT for Healthcare, which is already rolling out to leading institutions including AdventHealth, Baylor Scott & White Health, Boston Children’s Hospital, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, HCA Healthcare, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, and the University of California, San Francisco.
Rob Purinton, AdventHealth’s chief AI officer, said the health system is working with OpenAI to apply AI in ways that directly benefit consumers, focusing on reducing friction, improving access to clear and timely information, and giving care teams more time to focus on delivering whole-person care with compassion and consistency.
ChatGPT for Healthcare is designed to support careful, evidence-based reasoning required in real patient care, while reducing administrative burden so teams can spend more time with patients. Clinicians, administrators, and researchers are brought into a secure workspace with the controls needed to deploy AI securely and at scale.
The platform comes with tools that go beyond basic AI chat. It offers evidence retrieval with transparent citations drawn from millions of peer-reviewed research studies, public health guidance, and clinical guidelines. It also provides reusable templates for common tasks like drafting discharge summaries, patient instructions, clinical letters, and prior authorization support.
Data privacy has been a central concern in healthcare AI adoption, and OpenAI has addressed it directly. Patient data and protected health information remain under each organization’s control, with options for data residency, audit logs, customer-managed encryption keys, and a Business Associate Agreement with OpenAI to support HIPAA-compliant use. OpenAI also confirmed that content shared with ChatGPT for Healthcare is not used to train its models.
Purinton has emphasized that AI works best when it supports people rather than trying to solve healthcare challenges on its own, describing the AI transformation as fundamentally a workflow change that requires strong processes worth automating.
The OpenAI AdventHealth AI partnership reflects a growing shift in how large health systems are thinking about technology, not as a replacement for human care, but as infrastructure that frees clinicians to do more of what they were trained to do.
