Anthropic Launches Claude Corps to Train 1,000 Fellows for Nonprofits
Anthropic has introduced Claude Corps, a new national fellowship program designed to place early career talent inside mission driven nonprofits across the United States. The initiative will train 1,000 fellows to use Claude effectively, then pay them to spend a full year working full time and in person with host organizations to help advance their missions.
The Claude Corps fellowship is a partnership between three organizations. Anthropic is funding the program and leading its overall strategy while supplying Claude expertise. CodePath, described as America’s largest provider of collegiate computer science education, will serve as the official employer of record for fellows and run the training curriculum. Social Finance, a nonprofit and registered investment advisor, will handle measurement, evaluation, and the long term financial structure needed to scale the program.
Anthropic is committing an initial $150 million to the effort, framing it as a response to the disruption that transformative AI could bring to the labor market. The company says frontier AI labs have a responsibility to ensure the benefits of the technology are widely shared, particularly with workers absorbing the changes AI is likely to bring.
Each fellowship runs for 12 months. Fellows begin with an intensive training period covering how to use Claude in nonprofit settings, then receive five hours of ongoing training weekly once placed with a host organization. They earn a full time salary of $85,000 plus benefits, along with support from a CodePath mentor, technical office hours with Anthropic, and a Claude token budget to power their projects.
Over the next year, at least 400 nonprofits are expected to host Claude Corps fellows. Early hosts named in the announcement include Braven in Chicago, Code the Dream in Durham, the International Rescue Committee in New York, RAINN in Washington DC, the Reef Environmental Education Foundation in Key Largo, and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, among many others spanning food banks, veteran support groups, and refugee services.
Applications for the first cohort of 100 fellows are open now and close July 17, with the group starting in October 2026. Two additional cohorts will begin in January and August 2027. Anyone over 18 with under two years of full time work experience can apply, regardless of educational background, provided they are authorized to work in the US. Host organization applications are also open for all three cohort start dates.
Anthropic says its long term ambition is to grow Claude Corps well beyond 1,000 fellows, eventually open sourcing parts of the program’s infrastructure so other organizations can replicate the model, including potentially outside the US.
