Wayve’s $85M Employee Tender Offer Values Self-Driving Startup At $8.5B

UK-based autonomous driving startup Wayve has launched an $85 million employee tender offer at a valuation of $8.5 billion, giving its workforce the opportunity to sell a portion of their vested equity before any public market exit.

The Wayve employee tender offer is being led by the company’s existing and new investors the same group behind its $1.2 billion Series D closed in February 2026, which established the current valuation. That round was led by Eclipse, Balderton, and SoftBank Vision Fund 2, with participation from Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, Baillie Gifford, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Uber.

It is the company’s second employee liquidity event. The first held alongside its $1.05 billion Series C in May 2024. Over the past year, Wayve has more than doubled its headcount to 1,200 employees. Offering structured liquidity is increasingly how high-growth AI companies retain their best people rather than waiting on a distant IPO. It is a growing trend seen across peers including Decagon, ElevenLabs, Linear, and Clay the last of which has run two tenders in just nine months.

What makes Wayve distinctive is its technical philosophy. Rather than building around pre-loaded high-definition maps, its end-to-end neural network learns to drive purely from real-world data, closer to how humans develop driving instincts through experience. The goal is a general-purpose AI driver that works across vehicles, countries, and road conditions without needing to be reprogrammed for each market.

Commercially, the nine-year-old startup has two concrete targets ahead: a robotaxi pilot with Uber expected later this year and a planned integration into Nissan’s next-generation driver-assist systems beginning in 2027. With investor confidence high and its headcount continuing to grow rapidly, the $85 million tender offer is as much a signal of the company’s forward momentum as it is a tool for retaining top talent.
