Ethereum Foundation Appoints pcaversaccio to Board Amid Leadership Shake-Up

Quick Reads:
  • pcaversaccio joins the Ethereum Foundation board for a one-year voluntary term
  • The Ethereum Foundation board now stands at four members
  • The move follows months of executive exits and new spin-off ventures

The Ethereum Foundation board has a new face. The organization behind the world’s second-largest blockchain announced it has appointed pcaversaccio, widely known in the community simply as “pc,” to its board of directors, growing the leadership group to four members as the foundation works to sharpen its governance structure.

pc isn’t a newcomer to the Ethereum ecosystem. He’s a respected security researcher and co-founder of SEAL 911, an emergency response initiative that steps in when things go wrong on-chain. He’s also spent time on the foundation’s Silviculture Society, an advisory circle that quietly guards Ethereum’s founding values, things like censorship resistance, open-source development, privacy, and security. His appointment to the Ethereum Foundation board comes with a one-year voluntary term, according to the foundation.

With pc’s addition, the board now includes foundation president Aya Miyaguchi, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Swiss legal counsel Patrick Storchenegger, and pcaversaccio himself. The board’s job isn’t just ceremonial. It sets the foundation’s long-term strategic direction and acts as a kind of internal check, making sure management decisions stay true to the organization’s mission. It also functions as a security council of sorts, overseeing compliance with Swiss law, where the foundation is officially based.

The timing of this appointment matters. The Ethereum Foundation board shakeup arrives during a genuinely turbulent stretch for the organization. Over the past several months, a string of high-profile researchers and executives have walked away, with a number of them launching their own Ethereum-focused ventures outside the foundation’s walls. It’s part of a broader pivot, one where the foundation is stepping back from being the operational center of Ethereum development and instead repositioning itself as a long-term steward of the network.

The foundation didn’t shy away from the moment, welcoming pc publicly on X and saying it looks forward to working with him to help steward Ethereum’s future.

Whether this signals a more stable chapter for the foundation, or simply one more move in an ongoing reshuffle, remains to be seen. But for now, the Ethereum Foundation board has a fresh voice, and one with deep security chops, at the table.
